Special Olympics Canada empowers individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport, providing training and competition opportunities across the country. To support the development of coaches who play a vital role in this mission, Special Olympics Canada partnered with Lingel Learning to design and implement engaging bilingual training modules that enhance knowledge, skills, and confidence in delivering inclusive, high-quality coaching.
The project focused on the creation and implementation of nine training modules in both English and French, seamlessly integrated into Special Olympics Canada’s existing e-learning platform. Lingel Learning developed course shells for each province and territory and provided a reusable template to support rapid course creation in the future.
The modules were designed with a learner-centered approach, using constructivist and experiential methods to ensure accessibility and engagement for all participants. Features included interactive elements such as animations, video, audio, quizzes, and assignments. In addition, Moodle’s Gradebook functionality was incorporated to allow coaches and administrators to track progress and outcomes effectively.
The result was a dynamic and authentic learning experience tailored to the needs of Special Olympics Canada’s diverse coaching community. By combining bilingual content, interactive tools, and robust tracking capabilities, the platform empowered coaches to gain practical knowledge they can apply directly in real-world settings. This solution not only strengthened the organization’s training capacity but also reinforced its mission of enriching lives through sport and inclusion.
